welcome!
Welcome to Elohi! We are an original AU tribal shapeshifter roleplay that loosely resembles the early 1600s of North America during the settling of Europeans on Native American land. There are influences from Native American culture mixed throughout the forum purely to give the players an idea of the basis for the background and the rest is completely fictional; we are in no way attempting to recreate any situations, beliefs or accuracy with true native culture. If you have an issues with the forum or questions, please feel free to PM one of the Administrators or post in the HELP board!what should you read?
There's a lot of stuff to read here on Elohi, and we totally don't expect you to read it all especially at one time. However we do require that you read the RULES and the INFORMATION ON THE TRIBES / SETTLERS, as well as the APPLICATION FORM and BREED LIST before creating your first character so you can get the gist of how things work around here. Please feel free to refer back to these documents as needed.general background
Your characters life takes place in a land called Elohi, which has a diverse terrain throughout the explored territories which is constantly being expanded. There are five Tribes that reside here, each with their own individual set of beliefs and customs, as well as a set of newcomers from across the sea commonly referred to as the Settlers. The time-frame to keep in mind while writing here is mid 1500-1600 North America, when European settlers were coming across to make their place in the new land, as well as their conflict with the Native Americans. There is tension between the tribes, and there is definite animosity between the tribes and the settlers and interactions between them usually turn bloody fast. Here the members of the tribes can shapeshift into their spirit forms that are determined around the age of 18 by a rite of passage, set forth by the individual tribes. All members of the tribe must complete the rite of passage at this time or they won't receive the gift of their spirit animal, and typically are thrown from the ranks of their tribe or shunned as a pariah.
The faith of the tribes is largely subjective. They worship the animals of the land as their gods - this does not keep them from killing and eating them, but they hold great reverence for the animals. However, each tribe has a specific animal they hold the values of more than the others which you will find later in the Tribe Information. The settlers largely hold no faith having come from across the sea to escape persecution for their ways and lack of belief in a higher power.
